The Dynamic Duo Of Healing Under One Roof

This week I made a big and exciting announcement to the patients of my office; we’re adding massage therapy services to our chiropractic and wellness offerings.  Needless to say, everyone was excited!

Who doesn’t love the tranquil and relaxing feeling you experience after 60 minutes on the massage table? Yes, I enjoy a great massage as much as the next person, but I want to be clear about my motivation for bringing massages services under my practice’s roof. Don’t worry; we’re not turning into a spa!

Chiropractic and massage together benefit all types of people, ranging from infants to the elderly, and when used in combination, can form a powerful healing approach that addresses pain and overall health in many ways. Where chiropractic focuses on proper alignment of the spine and enhancing nerve function, massage can relieve tension in the surrounding muscles and ligaments. The way I see it, addressing soft tissue problems is an important complement to the chiropractic care I provide.

And massage offers many additional benefits as well. Massage has been shown to…

  • Increase circulation
  • Stimulate lymph flow
  • Relax and soften muscles
  • Reduce spasms and cramping
  • Increase joint flexibility
  • Release endorphins and oxytocin levels
  • Reduces blood pressure
Meet Shannon Tessier, Massage Therapist, Healing Touch Chiropractic, West Fargo, ND

With so many benefits it only seemed fitting to invite Shannon Tessier, Licensed Massage Therapist, to join the Healing Touch Chiropractic team.  Shannon obtained her training and certification through Sister Rosalind Gefre’s School of Massage, graduating in March 2009.  She also possesses specialized training in Oncology Massage through the Colorado School of Healing Arts, where she received certification and an additional 274 hours of training.  What a blessing her training, expertise and “healing touch” has been to so many who have been affected by cancer.

When I asked Shannon to describe her technique she replied, “It’s difficult to describe my style in any one way because I like to pull techniques from every modality I know.  When someone comes to see me I listen to their concerns and then adjust the session around their individual needs.  This approach allows them to benefit in every way possible.”  I liked her answer because it’s very similar to the way I approach the care I give my patients; we’re each individuals and a cookie-cutter approach doesn’t resonate with me.

Yes, the benefits of a wellness program that includes both health care options are endless; massage and chiropractic together help the body achieve an optimal level of health at a faster pace.  By assisting the body with its most basic functioning, the connection between body, mind and spirit is renewed. I’m thrilled to offer this dynamic duo of healing under one roof.
